TACKLE SPRING CLEANING HEAD ON

Finally! It’s here! Spring is upon us! Well, sort of. Although we haven’t experienced another glorious bout of summer temperatures and sun just yet, spring is just around the corner. The temperatures are finally starting to pick up, and you can see the flowers beginning to bloom. The days are getting longer, and the air smells fresh and green. We love it.

And with those glorious warm(er) days ahead, we like to plan ahead, tackling our spring cleaning now so that we can actually enjoy the weather once it’s here. After all, there’s something supremely satisfying about a sparkling, tidy home, don’t you think?

Before you really get started, there are a few things you’ll want to do. Make a list of what you want to get done, make a plan for what you’ll have for lunch and dinner (we always order enough food for both on UberEats or Deliveroo the day before or morning of so we don’t have to waste time or energy on deciding), throw the windows open (as long as it isn’t raining), gather your supplies, turn on some tunes and toss in a load of laundry. Once all that is said and done, you are ready to tackle even the dirtiest of tasks, from kitchen to bedroom and back.

Bathroom

1. Dust and wipe down all vents and light fixtures, and sanitise door knobs and switch plates.

2. Clean the toilet top to bottom and scrub the tub. Don’t forget to wash the shower walls. Make sure you treat the drains.

3. Wipe down mirrors before emptying the trash and cleaning the trash can inside and out.

4. Vacuum and then mop the floors.

Bedroom

1. If you have any clothes or loose items, put them away neatly.

2. Dust and wipe down all vents and light fixtures as well as the furniture, including picture frames! Go over the light switches as well.

3. Wash the windows and windowsills.

4. Flip and rotate your mattress.

5. Vacuum floors, making sure to reach into the corners. Vacuum along the ceiling too if you can reach.

Living Room

1. If you have any loose items or clutter, put them away neatly.

2. Dust and wipe down all vents and light fixtures as well as the furniture, including picture frames!

3. Wash the windows and windowsills and sanitise the light switches, keyboards and remotes.

4. Vacuum any upholstered furniture like sofas and chairs.

5. Vacuum floors, making sure to reach into the corners. Vacuum along the ceiling too if you can reach.

6. Shake out your rug outside before bringing it back in. Spot treat carpets or use a carpet cleaner.

7. Light a nice scented candle to highlight the freshness.

Kitchen and Dining Room

1. Clean any dirty dishes too large for the dishwasher. Load the dishwasher completely and set it to run.

2. Dust and wipe down all vents and light fixtures, and sanitise door knobs and switch plates.

3. Wipe down the backsplash and the walls and wash the windows and windowsills.

4. Wipe down the cabinet doors and inside of cabinets. Also, don’t forget to vacuum inside of cabinets and drawers as well! Lots of dust and food crumbs can build up.

5. Reorganise drawers and cabinets. Use bins and dividers to keep things neat.

6. Clean your small appliances like tea kettle, toaster and stand mixer before cleaning the oven and stovetop.

7. Throw away any expired or unwanted food in the fridge. Clean it thoroughly, wiping down the outside and inside.

8. Clean the sink.

9. Empty the trash can, and clean it inside and out.

10. Refold napkins and tablecloths. Iron them if they need ironing.

11. Vacuum and mop the floor.

Bonus

If you swap out your wardrobe for warmer and cooler months, take this day to do so. While you’re at it, be sure to fill a box or bag with unwanted items to donate. Organise your closet by colour. Wipe down your laptop and organise your desktop.

Happy cleaning!
