NOT INTO COFFEE? TRY THESE NATURAL ALTERNATIVES

We don’t know about you, but we’re pretty damn excited about the fact that we now sell coffee! It’s the moment we’ve been waiting for, and now we can feel bright and shiny with a juice and a fresh cup of coffee right in one place. But sometimes, as much as we love coffee, we want to opt for something else to brighten our mornings, something else to give us that little pick-me-up. And when that happens, what can you do? Turns out, quite a bit! We’re breaking down our favourite natural energy boosters that are tasty and nutrient-dense alternatives to coffee. Now where did we put our mugs…?

RAW CACAO:
We’re used to getting our energy from a bean, right? Not kidney or cannellini, but coffee beans. And while coffee is certainly a stimulant, another bean, cacao, is actually the fantastic, natural energy booster I reach for. Raw cacao increases energy levels by triggering the release of endorphins, which enhances your mood and gives mental energy, and improves blood flow to the brain. Cacao is also rich in magnesium, which is important for combatting fatigue, irritability and anxiety. Order The Almond Butter Cup to feel energised ASAP.

MATCHA:
Another wonderful natural energy booster is matcha, partially thanks to its caffeine content. Though it is definitely potent, it has about 60 mg of caffeine per cup to coffee’s 95 mg, so you’ll get a boost without experiencing the crash. In addition to its manageable caffeine content, matcha also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that has been proven to provide a calm, steady alertness. So not only will you get an energy boost but also improved focus! Pick up a Matcha & Maca Superfood Latte at any of our shops to get your juices flowing naturally.

CHIA:
Though you may not expect it, chia seeds contain a lot of fat, but don’t worry. It’s the good kind! In fact, their fat content is why they offer people a great source of energy. Studies have shown that eating chia seeds can even enhance exercise performance in the same way a sports drink would, without the sugar. There’s a reason people have been consuming them for centuries! Double down on pick-me-ups with The Lightsaber and a Strawberry Lemon Chia Seed Pudding.

ALGAE:
If you take a look at the colour of algae like spirulina or chlorella, it will come as no surprise that both are chock full of chlorophyll. But what you might not know is that chlorophyll gives us a powerful natural dose of what we’re all looking for: energy! Adding a few drops of liquid chlorophyll or asking for an extra shot of chlorella and spirulina in your smoothie will give you that energy boost you were looking for. Swing by our in-studio shop at Rocycle after class to grab The Post Workout Avatar to replenish your energy levels quickly.

And while of course we love getting our energy from the beautiful, nutrient-dense foods and drinks at The Cold Pressed Juicery and always try and include natural energy boosters like matcha, cacao, chia and algae in our diets, we definitely like to supplement with some non-food practices. We make sure to spend time outside, soaking up the sun (even if it’s not as frequently as we’d like here in Amsterdam), we get regular exercise and we make sure to spend time with people we love that give us energy.
