FESTIVAL SURVIVAL GUIDE

Sure, summer is the season of shorts, sunshine, sea and sand. But do you know what it’s also the season of? Festivals. And do you know what that means? It’s also hangover season. Can we get an ‘ugh’?

We love hitting up all the festivals that take place in and around Amsterdam. They’re a great way to socialise and move your body to some great music. But, we really don’t love the consequences that often come with attending them. Headaches, dry skin, upset stomachs. The works.

We would never discourage you from having fun and enjoying all that festival season has to offer. But, as usual, we’ve got a few tips and tricks to help prevent debilitating hangovers before they start and to cure them should you not be as diligent beforehand as you should be. Here’s exactly what you need to do before, during and after all those festivals to ensure you feel as good as you did before you went.

Before
Before we even get into what you’ll need to eat and drink, we implore you to lather up with sunscreen. You’ll definitely still pick up a little bit of colour and get a nice tan, but you will avoid having any unsightly burns you’ll have to attend to later. The best thing you can do before you go is to hydrate. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. And one of our favourite things to drink before to up our hydration levels is coconut water. Grab either a bottle of our Raw Fresh Coconut Water in a Bottle or one of our Single Coconuts and get to drinking! Also, make sure you eat something filling and nutrient-dense to ensure you’ve properly lined your stomach if you’re planning to drink at the festival. Have a bowl of Pea & Mint Soup with a Mexican Burrito Salad, and you’ll be good to go.

During
As you might have guessed, hydration during the festival is just as essential as hydration before. Pack your bag with another bottle of Raw Fresh Coconut Water. Vitamin C and greens are also great for preventing hangovers, so we love to stash a bottle of The Reset or The Bedrock in our bags as well to flood our systems. With all that dancing, you’ll definitely be getting hungry. Unfortunately, festivals are a healthy desert, with very few options that will do good for your body. Nestle a Matcha Boost Ball and a Raw Energy Bar or two next to your juices so you have something readily available when hunger strikes. Avoiding eating processed junk will make the hangover that much lighter. And don’t forget to alternate each alcoholic drink with a glass of water.

After

Oh no. You did all you could (we hope), but you’re still feeling hungover. That’s ok! We’re coming to your rescue. Cosy up in bed and order a smoothie packed with dark fruit like The Cup of Youth or The Power Breaky on UberEats. The berries are packed with antioxidants that can help fight hangovers. We also recommend ordering The Black Beauty or a Charcoal & Black Sesame Superfood Latte. The activated charcoal in both is the best thing to encourage detoxification in the body, which is likely quite necessary after a festival. And, of course, hydration. Be sure to load up on fresh water as well as coconut water, as it is chock full of electrolytes. Shut the blinds, pull up your favourite show on Netflix and pray you feel better soon.
