A WHOLE LOT (61) OF LOVE

A Whole Lot (61) of Love

Is there anything better than a fresh cup of coffee in the morning? It’s delicious, it’s restorative and really, your day just doesn’t feel like it’s started unless you’ve had it. For ages, you had to run all over town to get all the drinks you’d need for the day. You’d have to pick up kombucha from the supermarket, your smoothies from The Cold Pressed Juicery and your coffee over at Lot Sixty One on the Kinkerstraat.

Thankfully, those days are over. As you might have noticed, we are now proudly serving it all right in our stores. When you pop into our shops on Willemsparkweg or the Prinsengracht, you can get the most delicious coffee in town with the most delicious plant-based milks. Lattes, Americanos, espressos. You name it, we have it.

And because we love you guys so much, we think it’s time we make our coffee even more irresistible. For the entire month of September, you’ll get 10% off every single coffee you drink at Willemsparkweg 8 or Prinsengracht 154. What do you have to do to get the discount? Sign up for the newsletter and show our lovely employees a copy of it in your inbox when you go to pay. They’ll apply your discount right on the spot.

Lot61’s amazing founder, Adam Craig, believes that Lot61 is so special because of their focus on well-curated, quality products. This attracts coffee professionals who take pride in their work and value their time; they tend to partner with great baristas and with wholesale clients who are quality-driven. As you might have noticed, the coffee we sell is particularly delicious and that’s because it’s a very special blend. This organic coffee from Peru and Brazil is perfect for us because they’re roasted with particular care. They spend a little longer roasting so that the acidity that often curdles alternative milks is reduced. The flavour of the beans complements and accentuates the flavours of the alternative milks. With oat milk, you may notice maple and stone fruit, with almond, you’ll pick up on notes of chocolate and nuts like in a Ferrero Rocher and with coconut you’ll get hints of caffeinated piña colada. Each one is special, and each one is perfect.

Now you obviously love the way it tastes, but did you ever stop to think about what it does for your body? Thanks to high levels of antioxidants and beneficial nutrients, coffee is as healthy as it is delicious and popular. Studies have even shown that coffee drinkers have a much lower risk of numerous serious diseases, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s  They have also shown that those who drink coffee regularly have a significantly reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Though some often claim that the caffeine in coffee can increase your blood pressure, this is only true to a negligible extent. In fact, there is evidence that women who drink coffee have a reduced risk of heart disease, and all coffee drinkers have a 20% lower risk of stroke.  If those are not compelling enough statistics, coffee seems to be protective against two of the deadliest types of cancer: colorectal and liver. Regular coffee drinkers have a 40% lower risk of liver cancer and a 15% lower risk of colorectal cancer. Now where did our cup of coffee get to??

Do you ever feel happier when you’re clutching a warm cappuccino, savouring each sip? Well, it’s not all placebo. Studies have shown that individuals who drank at least 4 cups of coffee a day have a 20% lower risk of becoming depressed. Additionally, taking the time to drink and really enjoy a delicious cup of coffee can become a ritual of sorts, helping you become more mindful and feel happier and at peace.

It’s pretty common knowledge that coffee can improve energy levels thanks to the caffeine present in it, but it turns out that it can also make your brain work more efficiently. Caffeine blocks the inhibitory neurotransmitter adenosine, which allows dopamine and norepinephrine to increase, increasing the firing of neurons and helping with brain function. Numerous controlled studies have shown that coffee has positive effects on everything from memory to mood to vigilance to general mental function.

And, as if we didn’t have enough reasons to reach for a cup of Joe in the morning, research has shown that coffee drastically improves physical performance and can help your body burn fat. In fact, research has shown that it can boost your metabolic rate by up to 11% and increase fat burning by up to 29%! It’s also rich in essential nutrients like riboflavin, pantothenic acid, manganese, potassium, magnesium and niacin.

Pretty impressive, don’t you think? So really, what are you waiting for? Sign up for the newsletter – if you haven’t already – and pick up an extra reusable coffee mug. You’re about to get buzzed!
