Thanks to high levels of antioxidants and beneficial nutrients, coffee is as healthy as it is delicious and popular. Studies have even shown that coffee drinkers have a much lower risk of numerous serious diseases, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s  They have also shown that those who drink coffee regularly have a significantly reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Though some often claim that the caffeine in coffee can increase your blood pressure, this is only true to a negligible extent. In fact, there is evidence that women who drink coffee have a reduced risk of heart disease, and all coffee drinkers have a 20% lower risk of stroke.  If those are not compelling enough statistics, coffee seems to be protective against two of the deadliest types of cancer: colorectal and liver. Regular coffee drinkers have a 40% lower risk of liver cancer and a 15% lower risk of colorectal cancer. Now where did our cup of coffee get to??

Do you ever feel happier when you’re clutching a warm cappuccino, savouring each sip? Well, it’s not all placebo. Studies have shown that individuals who drank at least 4 cups of coffee a day have a 20% lower risk of becoming depressed. Additionally, taking the time to drink and really enjoy a delicious cup of coffee can become a ritual of sorts, helping you become more mindful and feel happier and at peace.

It’s pretty common knowledge that coffee can improve energy levels thanks to the caffeine present in it, but it turns out that it can also make your brain work more efficiently. Caffeine blocks the inhibitory neurotransmitter adenosine, which allows dopamine and norepinephrine to increase, increasing the firing of neurons and helping with brain function. Numerous controlled studies have shown that coffee has positive effects on everything from memory to mood to vigilance to general mental function.

And, as if we didn’t have enough reasons to reach for a cup of Joe in the morning, research has shown that coffee drastically improves physical performance and can help your body burn fat. In fact, research has shown that it can boost your metabolic rate by up to 11% and increase fat burning by up to 29%! It’s also rich in essential nutrients like riboflavin, pantothenic acid, manganese, potassium, magnesium and niacin.
